This seminar will examine the relationships between language, mind, and culture. Language is the essential tool that sets humans apart from other animals and has allowed us to develop culture, civilization, and technology. Some of the main topics we will look at are the origins of language, animal communication, child language acquisition, second language learning, bilingualism, and language and music. Students will be encouraged to choose a topic they are particularly interested in for in-depth research.
