Remember, you only live once!

Personally, I think that this program is amazing. Not only we learned about each country’s culture but we also learned our country’s culture that we have never known before as well. In addition, we also got new acquaintances and new experiences, especially on how to work together as a team. As for me, the most meaningful part of this program is of course, the progress. I still remember how nervous I was, especially during the first meeting. Thankfully, all of HGU students are friendly and they also tried their best to chat with us MCU students, so I became less nervous. I also got nervous when I saw my group’s theme. To be honest, I did not really understand about anything related to gender in Indonesia. However, thanks to that I gained more knowledge about my own country’s culture about gender that I’ve never known before. I also felt thankful for all of my team members, since all of them are really cooperative and I had fun upon discussing about our presentation. At first, we might be pretty awkward. We also faced some misunderstandings during the process but thankfully we became closer as the time goes by. We even had an after party together!
As for the difference between MCU and HGU students, I learned that in HGU if you present something, you also tend to ask a question or two to the audience. It really is fascinating for me, because in MCU, as the speaker, usually you will be the one who received some questions from the audience, and I would say that it is pretty rare for the speaker to ask questions to the audience. I also learned that Japanese people are really diligent. All of HGU students from my group members have part time job, yet they still able to schedule meeting with us. They even make agenda for our meeting, even though they are busy. That’s why I’m amazed by how they manage their time and how diligent they are.

Message to juniors

For those of MCU and HGU juniors, I highly recommend this program! Yes, you might face some difficulties such as time and language differences during the process, but I believe that you guys can overcome it. Believe it or not, you will learn a lot from each other and for those of you who wants to improve your communication skills, joining this program would be really helpful since I believe everyone who joins this program is still learning like you. You may make some mistakes, but you may also learn from it and of course you may become better! Remember, you only live once!
